GET UP ON THIS! According to Newscientist an unknown component of breast milk kills HIV particles and virus-infected cells, as well as blocking HIV-transmission in mice with a human immune system.

Even if babies born to HIV-positive mothers avoid infection during birth, around 15 per cent contract HIV during early childhood. Since the virus can get into milk, breastfeeding was one possible suspect.

To investigate further, Angela Wahl at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her colleagues created mice with human bone marrow, liver and thymus tissues that all became infected with HIV if the mice were given an oral dose of the virus. However, if the rodents were fed breast milk contaminated with HIV, the virus wasn't transmitted.

Previous research had hinted at breast milk's antiviral properties, but it was unclear if they would prevent transmission of HIV. "We have shown that milk has an intrinsic innate ability to kill HIV," says J. Victor Garcia, who supervised the work.

Andrew Hogan, an executive member of Optometrists Association Australia, warned amblyopia -- the medical term for lazy eye -- could result from obstructed vision caused by hair.

"If a young [person] has a fringe covering one eye all the time, that eye won't see a lot of detail," Hogan said.

"And if it happens from a young age, that eye can become amblyotic." Hogan said the most vulnerable age for visual development is birth to seven years old, but he said research has shown vision could still be affected at later stages.

Researchers out of the center for Biobehavioral Health and the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital analyzed the number of child injuries related to these kinds of children's products. After examining data collected from a network of over 100 hospitals, they found that between 1991 and 2010, over 45,398 children under the age of three were sent to the emergency room with an injury related to one of these products.

In other words, that's one child every four hours.

There are common items found in a household with a newborn child – baby bottles, pacifiers and sippy cups. Most small children interact with these products every day, but at what risk to their health?

"My co-authors and I realized that there really hadn't been any research on injuries related to these products even though the majority of kids in the country use them on a daily basis," Dr. Sarah Keim, the study's co-author and principal investigator in the Center for Biobehavioral Health at Nationwide Children's Hospital, told FoxNews.com. "We wanted to fill that gap in scientific knowledge, because there have been reports in the literature of severe cases of children being burned by overheated bottles and choking on pacifier parts."
